As I have previously said, I entered some of my pieces in the State Fair this year to help fill the area for Cross Stitched pieces. To my shock, out of the three pieces that I entered, I won two ribbons! On my needlepoint piece I received an Honorable Mention ribbon, and on my Beach Tree stitched piece, I received a second place Red Ribbon!! I can't tell you how amazed I was to win one!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">The only other stitching picture I can show you is what I have done on the Haunted House on evenweave. I have to tell you that it is very frustrating going because I seem to have to pull out every fourth or fifth stitch because I don't like where I put it.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">I have done some other stitching, but it is for exchanges at the PALS retreat in MB in October. I am almost at the panic stage because I really don't have anywhere near the amount of stitching done that I should have. Even though I am panicy, I am also really looking forward to the event. I have met so many fantastic ladies there that I don't get to see but once a year. This year, we are going to have the opportunity to meet a bunch more folks as the group has almost doubled in size this year. The other really exciting thing is, there are going to be 8(?) designers there showing off their stuff. How cool is that?

One other thing, I was going to try to fix my WIPocalypse page, because it is all messed up, but I couldn't get anything to work. I will try to work on it another time, but for now, please ignore it!!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">One last picture I have to show you is some of my family in Washington, DC last month. This is the reason I didn't get much stitching done, but what a wonderful alternative it was. These are my two sons, my grandson and my granddaughter. My daughter could not make the trip because of her work schedule which was very sad. We spent a week there together seeing the sites and enjoying being with each other. My older son (the one on the left), and my grandson live in Maine, so I feel lucky if I get to see them once a year. The only reason this came up was because my daughter-in-law, Becky was sent to DC for a conference. The funniest thing about this picture, and what I can't figure out is that my younger son, the one in the back is 6' 5" tall, much taller than the rest, but he looks the shortest. Now I know that Lily (my DGD) is standing on a platform, but I can't figure out what is going on with the rest of them - LOL!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Well, I had better get stitching! Thank you for stopping by my blog, and I love all the great comments you leave me! I have not worked on any of the original list of WIP's this month, so I guess I am in trouble for that. And, I really haven't gotten too far on most everything I worked on because I got really ADD this month and worked on many different things. Before I get to the stitching I have done this month, I thought you all would like to see how my Autumn Leaves needlepoint piece looks now that it has been framed. I really like the frame, and this is one of the pieces I am going to put in the State Fair next week.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Now to what I have been stitching. I have spent the most time working on this Halloween piece. I can not say that it has been a pleasure to stitch. As a matter of fact, I have decided that I will not stitch on 18ct dark fabric anymore after this. I am having a good bit of difficulty seeing it. I am not sure whether this will be a piece for MB yet or not. I really want to get this one finished because I have picked out a bunch more for the exchanges I really have to get to. Wish me luck!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The other project that has taken up a bit of my month is another needlepoint piece. I know, I really shouldn't be stitching on this when I have so many other pieces I should be doing, but this one is so much fun, and MUCH easier to see. This one is called Liberty Star, and I did think (rationalize) that it was appropriate for me to be stitching it in July. It is also a Nancy Needles chart. I am not sure you can really see this, but I love the way the pearl cotton floss shines!
I found some scrap fabric in my stash, that I believe is 28ct Jobelan, and it is so soft and lovely to feel, that I decided that I had to try one more time to stitch on something other than aida. I can't work on it very long at a sitting, because it is very hard for me to see, and I have to take out stitches all the time because I have put the needle in the wrong spot, but I do think it is coming along. I think it will take me a long time to decide if I want to put out this much effort on anything else, but we'll see.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I am not sure what I will be able to show you on the next WIPocalypse report, because I am going to be working more hours for the next two weeks, and then I will be out of town for the next week. Doesn't look too good for stitching time.
There was one beautiful knitting shop that I could have gone crazy in, but I have too much other stitching to do to get hooked there. The water in Lake Michigan was quite cold when you first got in, but it didn't take long to get used to it.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">First off, I have to show you that I finished stitching my needlepoint piece, and I loved every minute of stitching it. I have already taken it to the framers because I can't wait to get it up. I will have to wait, however, because my favorite framers have just moved, and haven't quite got the act back together just yet, so it will take them longer than usual to get it finished. The other issue is that it is a seasonal piece, and so I was bad. Yesterday I ordered the other three charts. I didn't get the thread packs or the canvas, but I got the charts. Partly because Nancy's Needle is closing and I am not sure how long her charts will be available. I can always get the canvas and threads at a later date.
OOPS. Yes, I know that I said I was going to do better in May, and I surely did not - I am sorry, life is just too crazy sometimes. This is going to have to be a short (for me) post with just a WIPocalypse update. That, too, has something missing - accomplishments. I am not sure which I have spent less time on, blogging or stitching. The up side is my gardens have been tended, I have seen and celebrated the marriage of a darling couple, spent a very hot Memorial Day weekend camping, and helped my DD Lisa celebrate her birthday. I also got into my reading obsession and finished off a number of books.
Actually, my vacation was a stitching one in Myrtle Beach, and we all worked on the same projects. So, here are the before and current pictures of these. This first one is Beach Tree by Nouveau Encore Designs, stitched on a fabric Amy from Down Sunshine Lane found for us - really perfect right? It is 16ct aida and I stitched it with DMC colors of my choice. I am pleased with the outcome, and you can see the fabric I bought in MB to finish it with. I am thinking a flatfold at this time, but that could change! The second one is Beachy Mood by Cricket collection, and I am stitching it on 16ct aida Everglades by Silkweaver with DMC. I have changed the colors of the letters because I didn't think the called for would show up on this colored fabric. I have found some gorgeous fabric (also in MB) to make this into a pillow. I will wait to show you that when I am done stitching the piece.
This concludes my WIPOCALYPSE report just to warn you that the rest is just life stories - LOL!
The campground is laid out in pods where there is like a mini culdesac which holds 8 campsites. With our group, we filled all eight sites, so it was like having our very own campground. It was wonderful, cold enough at night and early in the morning for campfires, and warm enough during the day for short sleeves. Perfection. There were 26 of us ranging from DH at 66 to a just turned one year old. We had our boat with us, so DH "had" to spend all day Saturday giving boat rides. What fun!! I have been so busy with gardening and getting ready for this trip, I have not had time to do much in the way of reading blogs. I am going to clear the blog posts that are in my reader, try to keep up this week, and see what is awaiting me after my trip. I really do love to read posts and see all the great stitching that is being done all over the world, but life is just not going to let me do it. I have also used her trims which I got at another PALS retreat. (Do you see a theme here) The trim is beautiful, and makes some really fun finishing. But, I had not stitched any of her charts - until now! I won first the Merry Christmas Sampler and then I won the Easter Collection. This other project is cute to, but what I really love is the fabric that Amy found to stitch it on. I don't know if you can see it or not, but the fabric is dyed in a beachscape. How cool is that? For those nonbasketball fans (but if you live in KY that is impossible) this is a MAJOR rivalry. The big Louisville newspaper's headlines was CIVIL WAR!! That might indicate the "inportance" of this game. In the interest of honesty, I have to clain Univ of Kentucky as my team. Both my DH and my DS, Matt graduated from there. I went there after high school and met my DH there. But, I also have taken classes at Uof L so when they are not playing UK, I cheer for them.
I am convinced that I could get rid of a ton of them...yeah, nope. I did put a number of them in a box to sell on ebay, but I kept way more than I should. There are some I am pretty sure I am never going to get around to stitch, but I just could not let them go. I am sick, I tell ya. I have been through almost all of my charts, and the list is long, but I did box a bunch of them up for MB in October. I am so looking forward to finishing Peaceable so that I can feel a little freedom to stitch something else. As far as Peaceable goes - I am making pretty good headway. I am almost finished with the cross stitches, and most of the backstitching. I am confident that I should be finished with the piece in March!! What do you think? Sorry the pictures look so dark!
I was able to have two full days (Saturday & Sunday) at home when I didn't even go out in the car for anything! Friday I made a menu up for the weekend and went out and got all the groceries we were going to need. I usually am running out at the last minute getting that other little ingredient, but not this time - whoo hooo! Friday night I served DH one of his favorites, pork chops and rice with mushroom gravy and southern cooked green beans. Saturday was Manicotti, garlic bread & a salad. Sunday was London Broil, baked potatoes and broccoli. And tonight we had turkey tetrazzini with beets. It is really nice to be home and cooking on the weekends these days - it seems like it had been forever since I was able to do that.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So, since there was no last minute errands, I was able to put a good bit of time into several projects. I spent about four hours working on our paperwork prepping for the tax man, six + hours on general housework and laundry, and six hours on inputting charts and leaflets and books into my craft room inventory. I am not done with any of it, but I am a lot further than I was at the beginning of the weekend. And, I was able to put almost five hours into Peaceable Kingdom.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Now,while I am happy that I have pretty much cleaned up the craft room, it did cause me to have some issues. Well, not issues, but UFOs. I found some more UFOs that I didn't remember having - not just a few, but 14 more!! They are cross stitch, needlepoint, knitting and crocheting in all stages of completion. I have some cross stitch ornaments that just need a few stitches to be done. I haven't a clue why I didn't finish them, but.... Not counted in this 14 were several ornaments that I had finished stitching but hadn't finish finished them. I really didn't think I had any of those. Hete is the stack of project bags that they created. Tomorrow or Monday when I post my official Full Moon WIPocalypse report, I will add these to my list. It will be good to some extent, because I will have some on the list that I will be able to finish fairly quickly unlike most of the UFOs,

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I really have been quite busy doing my best to organize my craft room. Right now, you wouldn't believe it because it looks like a tornado hit it. Saturday, DH and I spent a number of hours putting together some of those Organized Living cubes you can get at Michael's or JoAnns(I got mine at a deep discount combining a 60% off sale with an additional 25% off entire purchase coupon - whoohoo), and I am really pleased with how they turned out. But, I needed to find wall space for them and decide how I was going to fill them, etc. Two days later, and the cubes are full, but so is the middle of the room. I can't just do anything the easy way, I have to decide to go through all my stash and other junk and try and cull some things. Came up with probably 100 Southern Living and Midwest Living and BH &G magazines that I was going to get around to reading sometime..... Since I can't recycle them, and my kids don't want them, I think I am going to put them up on ebay. I really can't stand the idea of filling a land fill with them. I still have several bookcases to go through and pitch or organize, but when I am done, it will be wonderful!!

This is the lady that blew away Britain's Got Talent and the Youtube three years ago with her marvelous voice, but not so marvelous appearance. Well, last fall, she released her third CD which is called "Someone to Watch Over Me". On the CD is a new song written for her that is titled "This Will Be The Year". For her, it is saying that after all of her dreams and goals that were never quite met, this year they will be. Well, that idea struck a chord with me because I have had so many goals that just never have quite come to reality. Most of them are based on trying to get control of my life. I always seem to have "not enough time" to organize my stash, to declutter my house, to stitch, to take time for me. Well, I am really going to try to have This be my year.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">.To that end, I have spent most of my "freetime" winding bobbins of DMC floss. 168 bobbins, to be exact. You see, when there is a sale on DMC, I will go into the store and grab a handful, not knowing which I really need or which I have way too much already. So, I went through my craft room and my various bags and pulled all the floss that wasn't wound and required for an actual work in progress and started winding. This picture was taken just before Christmas, and I didn't stitch on it any during the two holiday weeks - too busy with company, etc. You can also see that I took it in very poor light. Not sure what happened with that. What you can't see with this picture, or for that matter the full updated picture is that it is a coverall, with the "sky" being stitched with one ply very pale blue floss. I have thought many times since I started this project that I shouldn't have put the first stitch in on the sky, and just left it white. What was I thinking??? For those of you who are new to my blog, I should tell you that I am stitching this for my DGD, and I started it sometime in 1999 or 2000. I have put it down many times, but I am determined to get it finished this time, hopefully before March of this year so that I can give it to him on his birthday. Because of that, I am going to be stitching on this exclusively until it is done. Here is a closeup of the area which I have been working on, and you can see that I stitched one of the big leaves on the left, and you may be able to see that I finished stitching the sky around the giraffe, and the right side of the big leaves. I also did just a little backstitching on the giraffe. I am hoping to have some more time for stitching now that the holidays are over, but I am not so sure that will be the case. It appears that I can not get this second updated picture to be where I want it to be, so here it is following its story - LOL!

I like to give hand made gifts to people I care about, but I am not sure how much they like them. The way this finished up, I am pretty sure my SIL will really like it.
